Goodbye 2020 - Year-end Reflections on the Year of the Pandemic. And Lemonade.
As we wrap up what’s been an extraordinary year, I’m reflecting on what has unfolded, how things have changed, and how some things might actually be a little better in the future as a result.
We won’t go into the details of the pandemic here. Suffice it to say, humanity underwent a biological trial in 2020, and though it forced us to seperate from one another physically, it also inspired a lot of us to reconsider what matters to us – in terms of people and relationships as well as physical belongings.
While decluttering (aka the “pandemic purge”) has been trending during as a result of COVID-19, so have the pursuits of genealogy and scrapbooking, indicating that while the appetite to rid oneself of useless junk is real, so is the desire to elevate and cherish that which is truly important.
This experience will go down in history, like the 1918 flu pandemic. Those of us who are alive now are thankful for the recollections of those who survived then. Our descendents will be grateful to us who have the forethought to document this year and its events.
Beyond the virus itself, quarantine, remote school and work, and economic circumstances that are creating more multigenerational living situations all contributed to an extra stressful holiday season this year. But what if, next time we’re together, we take the opportunity to document our lives – not just what’s happening now, but also our histories?
Here are a few ideas to help prompt memories for you and your family to discuss and share. Heirloom Vault is the perfect platform to facilitate and record the stories inspired by all of these ideas and more – and it’s private and free.
